Virtual cards which are used by Expedia and Booking.com are not normally active until the stay has commenced, so if you try to charge them before this they will be declined. Please check the booking on the OTA Extranet to see what the rule is for the virtual card linked to the reservation, as this can change. Please see other below options.
- For Expedia you can charge the virtual credit card on the day of check-in
- For Booking.com you can charge the virtual credit card one day after the check-in date
These validity dates are controlled by each OTA themselves and cannot be changed or overridden by Hop. Additional reasons why the payment may get declined include:
- If you receive an error message to say that the card has insufficient funds, check if the amount you are charging is not greater than the total booked price
- If you receive an error message to say that the CVC code is incorrect, double-check you are using the correct number
- If you receive an error message to say that the expiry date is incorrect, make sure you are using the correct expiration date or long card number
- The card is expired - contact Booking.com and they will issue you with a replacement card
- Too many attempts to charge the same card (the system prevented further attempts for security reasons) - try again in 24 hours
For further information, please refer to the Help sections on the respective OTA Extranets.
