The Expedia Virtual Card is only activated on the day of check-in, meaning that if you have an automatic payment rule set up on your rates to collect payment at the point of booking, or several days prior to check-in, the payment will not go through.
This means that if you have set up your account with Expedia so that they collect payment (Expedia Collect) for some or all of your reservations, you will have to manually charge the virtual card on the day of arrival.
If you have set up your account with Expedia so that you collect payment (Hotel Collect) for some or all of your reservations, then the guest's card details will be on the reservation and you can charge it at the appropriate time, according to your payment policy in Hop and the Expedia Extranet.
If you are entering a virtual card payment manually, when entering the booking you have the option to flag the card as a Virtual Card as you are entering the details. This is located on the transaction screen when you're adding a payment or card details in Hop.
This will be useful when you are adding further payments (e.g. for extras) onto the reservation as you will be able to differentiate between the guest's actual card and the virtual card, even when you take the payment as below:
When it stores the card, you will also see the word (Virtual) next to the stored card.
